Hollister Kids, the education division of Hollister Creative, has again earned national recognition for its custom teaching materials with the announcement that Hollister entries are finalists in six categories in the 2010 Distinguished Achievement Awards competition of the Association of Educational Publishers (AEP).
The six Hollister finalists were created for museum and foundation clients and provide learning and literacy materials for audiences ranging from elementary students to adults.
Last year Hollister had eight finalists and three gold medal winners in the AEP contest, which draws entries from the largest publishers of supplemental educational materials in the United States.
Three of this year’s finalists are learning guides commissioned by museums to attract school groups and families and extend the lessons of a museum visit into classrooms and homes.
A learning guide created for the Detroit Science Center for the “Accidental Mummies of Guanajuato” exhibition is a finalist in two categories for students in Grades 6-8. The Michigan K.I.D.S. education program was co-sponsor of the project.
A learning guide created for the University of Pennsylvania Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology for the exhibit “Iyare! Splendor and Tension in Benin’s Palace Theatre” is a finalist for materials for students in Grades 9-12.
Three other finalists are for projects that support the literacy and cultural initiatives of foundations.
The weekly “Yak’s Corner” newspaper Hollister Kids creates for The Skillman Foundation and Michigan K.I.D.S. is a finalist in the Sponsored Publication category for elementary students.
The eight-page newspaper is distributed weekly throughout the school year to promote literacy.
“The Skillman Foundation Guide to Community Services” is a finalist in the Sponsored Publication category for adult audiences. Co-sponsored by Michigan K.I.D.S., the guide provides family education activities and information on social services for low-income families in Detroit.
A program created for Ford Motor Company Fund and Community Services is a finalist in the Commemorative Edition category for students in Grades 6-8. The program “News Breakers: African American Voices in the Media” included a student learning guide distributed through Detroit Newspapers, a teacher guide and a classroom poster for Black History Month.
In the last 13 years, Hollister Kids materials have been honored 58 times as finalists or gold medal winners in the AEP competition. To learn more, visit HollisterCreative.com/educational.php.
