  • received six Communicator Awards, including a first place Award of Excellence for Drexel University’s College of Engineering Undergraduate Recruitment Video. The Communicator Awards is an annual competition that recognizes the best in advertising, corporate communications, public relations and identity work for print, video, interactive and audio.
  • won five EMPixx Awards, including a Platinum Award for a video created for Cabrini College. The EMPixx honors excellence in production of five categories of Moving Pixels: TV Commercials, TV Programs, Corporate Videos, Internet Moving Pixels and Independent Films & Videos. Allied Pixel also received three 2009 Summit International Awards.

  • formed the Nonprofit Organizations Group to address the tax needs of nonprofit entities. The new group handles federal and state tax issues and related legal matters for 501©(3) organizations, such as universities, health systems, private foundations and cultural institutions. The group also addresses these issues for tax-exempt governmental units and other types of tax-exempt and nonprofit organizations, and advises private foundations on issues that apply specifically to them, such as rules on self dealing, mandatory payouts and jeopardizing investments.

  • reported that one of its career communities, PhillyJobs.com, relaunched its website with enhanced functionality, expanded professional content, networking tools and career resources for job seekers and employers. The website now offers an increased community focus through interactive discussion forums, professional event listings, local Philadelphia employment news and comprehensive career content from local experts and industry insiders.

  • received the Oracle PartnerNetwork Global Award in the Oracle Accelerate category. BizTech also received the North America Titan Award for its Oracle Accelerate Solution at TVGuide Magazine.
     

Compuware Corporation
Blue Bell, Pa.

  • signed a definitive agreement to acquire privately held Gomez, Inc., a leader in Web application experience management. The $295 million cash acquisition is expected to close this month.
  • released Hiperstation 7.8, the centerpiece of Compuware's Application Auditing solution. The new version expands Hiperstation's capabilities with the integration of Vantage, Compuware's end-to-end application performance management solution, and the addition of WebSphere MQ and TCP/IP protocols. The new functionality allows organizations to more effectively protect against internal data breaches — across platforms — averting monetary losses and meeting regulations including PCI and HIPAA.

  • opened a digital services division, D4 Digital. The new subsidiary is helping companies leverage Internet video as the cornerstone of marketing efforts. D4 Digital is being headed up by Melissa Shusterman, a veteran television producer for MTV, VH1, FX, The Travel Channel and the Food Network. She is also a pioneer in episodic Web video content.
     

Deacom, Inc.
Wayne, Pa.

  • released Version 11.0 of DEACOM Integrated Accounting and Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) Software System. It includes new functionality that provides ERP accounting software users in the pharmaceutical manufacturing industry with enhanced internal and external reporting abilities. With the system’s new dashboard feature, users can compile an infinite number of reports from across all business processes into a single summary screen. Users who reference the same reports regularly — such as monthly production costs or year-to-date revenue — can create a dashboard that provides at-a-glance views of each report, through which they can then drill down to individual transactional details.
  • reported that President Jay Deakins was featured in a podcast interview released by Future Pharmaceuticals magazine. Deakins reviewed the issues associated with using multiple, disconnected software systems to manage business processes.

  • completed a $1.8 million follow-on investment in Inmagic, Inc., based in Woburn, Mass. Edison’s cumulative investment reached $6.8 million. Edison Venture Fund also completed a $3 million follow-on investment in PlumChoice, based in Billerica, Mass. Edison's cumulative investment reached $10.5 million.
  • made a $5 million investment in SANpulse Technologies, Inc., based in Jersey City, N.J. Edison is the sole institutional investor in the rapidly growing software business.

  • lwere the first firm to utilize Trumpet Marketing Group, LLC’s and Patents Online, LLC’s Patent Attorney Web framework to publicize the patents its attorneys have won for clients.   • reported that Harish Nim, CEO and Founder of Emerio GlobeSoft Pte Ltd, and Director of Emerio Corp in the U.S., was named the Singapore Indian Entrepreneur of the Year for Large Enterprises by the Singapore Indian Chamber of Commerce & Industries.
  • was ranked 80th in the 2009 Global Outsourcing 100 rankings by the International Association of Outsourcing Professionals. Emerio has been featured on the list four years in a row, starting when the award was incorporated in 2006.
     

Eurand Pharmaceuticals, Inc.

  • received approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for its New Drug Application for ZENPEP (pancrelipase) Delayed-Release Capsules for the treatment of exocrine pancreatic insufficiency (EPI) in patients with cystic fibrosis or other conditions. ZENPEP is the only FDA-approved pancreatic enzyme product that has been evaluated in clinical studies in adults and children — including children from 1 to 12 years old — and will offer four dosage strengths to meet the varied needs of infants, toddlers, adolescents and adults with EPI.

  • developed data warehouse models with related data mart models for specific vertical markets: healthcare, law enforcement and investment fund management. For each industry, EWSolutions has leveraged its decades of data warehousing, business intelligence and enterprise data modeling experience to create comprehensive logical and physical data models using a data modeling paradigm emphasizing business understanding and semantic clarity. Models in banking, education, insurance, logistics and retail are in development.

  • was chosen by Goldline Research as one of the “Leading Providers in the United States: Accounting Professionals” for 2009. The list of firms appeared in the October 19 issue of Forbes.
     

Gwynedd-Mercy College
Gwynedd Valley, Pa.

  • began the public phase of its $20 million capital campaign. The college has already raised nearly $11 million since the silent phase began in January 2008. The nursing school, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary, is now called the Frances M. Maguire School of Nursing in honor of an alumna who, with her husband James J. Maguire, gave $5 million.
  • reported that the Gwynedd-Mercy College School of Business ranked 12th in the top business schools at area colleges and universities, according to the Philadelphia Business Journal. The rankings are based on 2008-2009 undergraduate business student enrollment. Last year, the college was ranked 14th. This is the seventh consecutive year that the college has made the list.

  • reported that Daily Strength, one of the world’s most popular websites, recently created a special experts page to highlight Healthy Humans’ expertise around diabetes.
  • was chosen by The Friedman Diabetes Institute to help it deliver better services to their patients.

  • was honored with an Award Certificate of Excellence in the American Graphic Design Awards competition for marketing collateral created for Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI). The entry, “Leading the Way to Laboratory Excellence,” promoted CLSI’s Global Health Partnerships, and included a quick-overview booklet and a folder with three brochure-style inserts, all designed by Senior Designer Renée Guie.
  • was chosen by the Pennsylvania Perinatal Partnership to launch a website and publish a booklet raising public awareness about depression during and after pregnancy. Hollister Creative developed the campaign slogan “Depression Steals the Real You,” and wrote and designed the booklet and the website, http://www.DepressionStealsTheRealYou.org.

Malvern, Pa.

  • completed its Series D financing totaling $30 million. The round was led by a new investor, New Leaf Venture Partners. Previous investors participating in the round included Investor Growth Capital, Quaker BioVentures, Three Arch Partners, Onset Ventures, Interwest Partners and KBL Healthcare Ventures. The new investment gives Neuronetics the resources needed to bring NeuroStar TMS Therapy to depression patients.

Banner Relationship Management is the core CRM solution in SunGard Higher Education's Banner Enrollment Management Suite.
  • appointed Matt Mandalinci President and Chief Customer Officer of SunGard Higher Education. Mandalinci oversees global marketing, sales and services; is responsible for the customer experience, from developing prospects through sustaining loyalty with long-time customers; and reports to Chief Executive Officer Ron Lang. Previously, Mandalinci served as President of SunGard's Energy Solutions business, within SunGard Financial Systems.
     

University City Science Center
Philadelphia

  • joined the Greater Philadelphia Green Business Program, making a public promise to change its daily business practices and its impact on the environment. The Science Center is currently one of only two Platinum Members of the Greater Philadelphia Green Business program. In other green news, OxiCool, Inc., has moved into the Science Center’s Port Business Incubator. OxiCool is pioneering commercial development of environmentally friendly, compressor-less air-conditioning technology in collaboration with the U.S. Navy and a large commercial end user under a joint development agreement.
  • reported that its new QED Program is pumping $600,000 into technology commercialization in the Greater Philadelphia region. Three researchers at Drexel University and the University of Pennsylvania were awarded a total of $600,000 to pursue commercially relevant R&D related to life science technologies. The researchers will each receive $100,000 from the Science Center, a $100,000 match from their supporting institution and business advice for one year.
