Top IT Security Professionals Gather, Learn at 2009 Secureworld Expo
The sixth-annual Philadelphia SecureWorld Expo, a regional IT security conference, featured two days of sessions, keynotes, panels, exhibits and opportunities to network.
The event, held May 6-7 at the Valley Forge Convention Center, also featured a talk, “In Search of Software Security Architectures,” by Eastern Technology Council Chief Technology Officer Dr. Phillip A. Laplante. Laplante — who is also a Professor of Software Engineering and Affiliate Professor of Information Science and Technology at Penn State — spoke about authentication mechanisms, locks, monitors and alarms that secure software against specific kinds of attacks, and how and when they are integrated into software. His talk explored whether or not there is a set of architectural constructs and properties that render software more secure, regardless of the software’s size or purpose, and that remain secure as new threats emerge. Laplante also proposed a research agenda that promised to generate important results.
The Philadelphia SecureWorld Expo’s keynote presentation was given by World Trade Center survivor Joseph Dittmar. Dittmar, a member of the Always Remember Initiative, gave a personal account of 9/11 that was both touching and historical. He reminded attendees of the lessons learned on that day.
The Eastern Technology Council is a SecureWorld Partner.
