- completed a $1.3 million follow-on investment in New York-based TraderTools. The total financing of $2.3 million was led by Edison and included existing investors. Edison has invested more than $8 million in the company. In connection with this financing, former Advent Software Sales Executive and Edison Director Network Member John Geraci joined the board.

- was honored several times recently. Emerio won the Enterprise 50 award in recognition of it being one of Singapore’s 50 most enterprising companies. It was given International Headquarters status by the Economic Development Board. Chief Executive Harish Nim won the SICCI Indian Entrepreneur Award in the large enterprise category.

- was selected by the Newspaper Association of America Foundation to write a national curriculum strengthening critical thinking skills through use of print and digital media. The teaching package, developed by its educational publishing division, Hollister Kids, offers lesson plans and activity sheets that help students improve critical thinking in the key curriculum areas of financial literacy, nutrition, the environment, character education and information technology. The NAA Foundation distributed “Critical Thinking Through Core Curriculum: Using Print and Digital Newspapers” online and through newspapers around the country.

- reopened Holroyd Hall after a 16-month renovation and expansion. The building features the Hugh and Nancy Devlin Center for Science and Technology, complete with state-of-the-art classrooms, labs, lecture halls and research spaces. Its exterior and interior were completely renovated and a 2,000-square-foot addition was constructed, bringing it to 108,000 square feet in total. Holroyd Hall is now a green building with a new energy-efficient heating, ventilation and air-conditioning system; tiles made of reprocessed materials; high-efficiency, low-heat-emitting light bulbs; and lighting systems that run on motion sensors.In the near future, solar panels will be installed on the 8,000-square-foot roof.

- reported that Dr. Lisa Staiano-Coico, Provost, Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs and Professor of Surgery, Temple University has joined the Board of Directors. Also, Saul Behar was named Vice President and General Counsel. Behar has worked for the Science Center as a consultant since January 2009. Behar brings to his new position nearly 25 years of experience as an attorney, senior executive and strategic advisor, managing sophisticated corporate, real estate and securities transactions for early-stage and established companies in diverse fields. Most recently, Behar was a Partner at Wolf Block LLP.
- reported that NextFab Studio, a membership-based technology workshop and prototyping center, has opened at the University City Science Center. The 3,600-square-foot facility provides comfortable, clean and safe workspaces equipped with 3D printers, laser cutters, digital embroiderers and other cutting-edge tools. NextFab Studio operates in partnership with the Science Center’s non-profit Breadboard program to bring technology education and innovation opportunities, and the arts, to the broader community.
