  • hired Dan Francis to head up its webcasting and videoconferencing services. Previously, as head of Right Click Media, he provided audio and video production services combined with presentation technology to clients such as Wyeth, TYCO, U.S. Coast Guard and SAP. Prior to that, Francis was Production Manager with Advanced Audio Visual. Allied Pixel also hired former Production Intern Jay Lubragge as Teleprompter Operator/Rental Assistant. Lubragge graduated in 2008 from Kutztown University with a degree in Electronic Media.
  • reported that Elsevier’s Physical Examination & Health Assessment website won an international Best in Class Interactive Media Award from the Interactive Media Council, Inc. Allied Pixel handled all of the video production and post-production on the site, including DVD authoring. The videos make up an online physical examination textbook for Nurse Practitioners that Elsevier publishes. The series has 18 installments.

Alteva

  • won a Stevie Award in the Sales & Customer Service — IT & Telecommunications category. Alteva ranked first out of 14 finalists, including such companies as Rackspace Hosting and Constant Contact. The Stevie Awards honor excellence in Sales & Customer Service. Also, Technology Marketing Corporation named Alteva’s new voice application, Alteva Vision, a recipient of its 2009 Unified Communications magazine Product of the Year Award. Alteva Vision, brings telephony features to the desktop, and is a free add-on to all of Alteva’s voice customers. Built on Adobe Air technologies, this real-time communications app runs on any Apple, PC and/or Linux machine.
  • developed a way to interconnect its hosted voice and messaging services with the Microsoft Communication Services product suite, including Microsoft Exchange, SharePoint and Office Communications Server, for its small business and enterprise customers. Microsoft is actively pushing the capability of a fully integrated communications platform by partnering with Alteva, Comcast and Go Daddy, among others, to provide more productive communications, improve employee productivity and enhance office efficiency. Alteva is one of the few hosted voice service providers to offer the complete suite of Microsoft Communication Services with integrated voice services.

  • appointed Mark Anderson as Senior Director of Enterprise Sales. He is responsible for growing and managing a team of experienced business development professionals across various territories to expand the company’s brand, market share and overall recruitment advertising portfolio across major markets. He brings over 15 years of direct sales, leadership and business development experience to Beyond.com. Anderson served as the Director of Business Development for one of the leading recruitment advertising and employer branding agencies, Bernard HODES Group. He also co-founded and served as the Chief Strategy Officer for Appendant Marketing Group, a recruitment advertising agency that created targeted advertising campaigns for some of the largest organizations in the country.
  • released a survey showing that graduating college students rely heavily on their university career centers and prefer to use niche job sites over general job boards and social networking sites. The survey, commissioned by Beyond.com and conducted by students of the Wharton Small Business Development Center, included participants from a variety of schools across the United States and select European and Asian Pacific countries. The survey indicated that 98% of students visit Facebook on a regular basis, but less than 35% currently leverage this site for job search related tactics, such as becoming a fan of a potential employer or joining industry specific groups.

  • reported that the MBA student-managed Garber Venture Capital Fund at the Penn State Smeal College of Business closed its investment in Healthy Humans LLC. The $150,000 investment will be used to expand the Healthy Humans HealthHub continuity-care platform to additional physician practices and insurers.

Hollister Creative
Wynnewood, Pa.

  • was a “Spotlight” company in the Main Line Chamber of Commerce “Progress” special section published in the Main Line Times. The article explored how the company overcame a major challenge by adjusting its marketing strategy and rebranding. Also, President Kim Landry was featured on “The Marketing of Business,” a weekly show on Money Talk Radio AM 860 WWDB. Landry shared her expertise in marketing communications for businesses and non-profit organizations. Landry also was featured in the Local Perspective column of Connections, a national e-magazine on business topics published by Nxtbook Media and distributed locally through the Main Line Chamber of Commerce. Landry addressed critical issues of distribution and content affecting the success of an email newsletter as a marketing tool.
  • trained staff and volunteer leaders of Greater Philadelphia Cares (GPC) in the use of Facebook for “friendraising.” GPC is the largest provider of volunteer services in the Greater Philadelphia region, with more than 80 partner agencies benefiting from the work of volunteers it has recruited. Hollister Creative continues to expand the marketing communications services it offers to for-profit and nonprofit clients by combining new and traditional media in whatever blend works best.

  • released version 2.2 of its Clustify document clustering software, which features user-adjustable word weights and other improvements. Clustify groups related documents into clusters and labels each cluster with a few words to tell what it is about, allowing the user to explore the document set, and efficiently and consistently categorize documents.

LearnQuest
Bala Cynwyd, Pa.

  • released its On Demand Classrooms Virtual Lab solution, which supports the delivery of on-site or virtual training. The server and virtualization technology allows users and trainers to log in through a Web browser to the state-of-the-art data center. Clients simply indicate how many PCs they need and on what day, and a virtual lab is reserved. On Demand Classrooms’ team takes care of loading and testing to ensure software and supporting materials and files are properly installed and compatible with all machines. Students and instructors are granted 24/7 access to their virtual labs while the class is in session.

  • reported that new data exploring the clinical utility of Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) Therapy in depression was presented at the upcoming American Psychiatric Association’s annual meeting in New Orleans. NeuroStar TMS Therapy® is the fastest growing non-pharmaceutical treatment for depression in the U.S.
  • reported that initial findings from the sham-controlled, randomized study of Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) Therapy by the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) was published in this month’s Archives of General Psychiatry. It concluded that TMS was “a monotherapy with few adverse effects and significant antidepressant effects for unipolar depressed patients who do not respond to medications or who cannot tolerate them.” While the study was conducted independently, Neuronetics supplied its NeuroStar TMS Therapy systems for the study. Neuronetics is the only manufacturer of a TMS device that has been FDA-cleared for the treatment of depression.

  • began offering the U.S. federal methodology for calculating financial aid more quickly as a hosted, SaaS-based solution for the 2010/2011 aid year. SunGard Higher Education works directly with the Department of Education to accelerate the delivery of the updates to customers using Banner Financial Aid software.
  • made an agreement with Blackboard Inc. to deliver better integration and support services to their common customers. Together, the companies will work to improve integration of Blackboard Learn, a leading Web-based teaching and learning platform, with select SunGard Higher Education Digital Campus solutions. SunGard Higher Education also launched The Commons, an online community to help open discussion and collaboration by connecting customers and employees around the world.

University City Science Center
Philadelphia

  • reported that DreamIt Ventures is moving 15 emerging companies into the University City Science Center for the summer. More than 45 young entrepreneurs will spend three months working with a support team of mentors, accountants and lawyers as they strive to bring their ideas to the marketplace. In addition to seed funding, the companies get a collaborative work space in the Science Center’s Quorum area; administrative help; and introductions to funding sources, including angel investors, venture capitalists, private investors and public sources of funding.
  • kicked off its “2010 Smart Talk: Adventures in Entrepreneurialism” with a presentation by Bentley Systems CEO Greg Bentley.
