  • has hired designer Jenna Navitsky, who had been with multidisciplinary design firm Jakdesign in SoHo, New York. She holds a B.S. in Graphic Design from Drexel University.
     

Allied Pixel
Media, Pa.

  • provided video production and Web streaming for the funeral of Drug Enforcement Administration Agent Chad Michael, who was killed in Afghanistan. With less than a week to prepare, Multimedia Staging asked Allied Pixel to webcast the funeral with a high-quality video feed from the church where the funeral was held to a neighboring church where overflow viewing took place. In conjunction with Multimedia Staging, Allied Pixel provided audio and video production equipment and staffing, as well as streaming hardware and distribution services. The nearly two-hour broadcast was seen live, worldwide by close to 1,400 viewers.
  • hired Aaron Houston as Staff Editor. Previously, he worked at Alien Kung Fu in New York City in 3D animation and editing. Houston has a B.A. in Visual Effects and Motion Graphics from the Art Institute of Philadelphia.

  • completed an IP peering relationship with SimpleSignal that integrates disparate VoIP service providers to improve voice and video communications and allow advanced feature integration. Most calls are placed through the traditional PSTN controlled by legacy carriers, which defeats many of the current quality improvements available with high definition IP communications. When VoIP service providers peer with each other, users on either network can connect directly over IP and bypass the PSTN, allowing users to experience all the quality and features available through HD IP voice and video communications in a cross-platform call.

Bioconnect Systems, Inc.
Ambler, Pa.

  • reported the first in man clinical results for its implant platform, the Optiflow. Optiflow devices were implanted in 10 patients requiring new arteriovenous fistulae for hemodialysis. The primary safety endpoint was freedom from serious adverse events at 42 days. The primary efficacy endpoint was technical success (patent AVF without complications) at the end of surgery. Secondary efficacy was defined as technical success and primary patency at 42 days. All patients achieved technical success and 9/10 patients reached the secondary efficacy endpoint. Additionally, 9/10 patients achieved vein diameters exceeding the minimum national guideline of 6 mm needed to start hemodialysis. There were no serious adverse events related to the placement of the Optiflow. The company is conducting a larger clinical study.

This solution provides visibility and control to Operational and Performance metrics, in a hosted model. The end-to-end, hosted Oracle Business Intelligence solution combines BizTech’s management and technology consulting experience in Oracle Business Intelligence solutions with AT&T’s hosting and application management services and innovative utility computing platform. This solution will give companies the ability to use Oracle Business Intelligence solutions with new or existing applications, including Oracle E-Business Suite, PeopleSoft, JD Edwards, SAP or custom applications.

  • launched Vantage for Mobile, an initiative to increase the profitability of mobile data service providers by empowering them to improve and manage the customer data experience. Vantage for Mobile provides a real-time view of a customer’s mobile data services experience by starting with an individual subscriber’s experience and linking back to key business functions. Compuware also launched the first integration between its Vantage application performance management solution and its newly acquired Gomez Web performance management solutions.
  • reported that its Covisint subsidiary launched AppCloud, a secure application marketplace that allows healthcare technology providers to offer their solutions to Covisint communities. AppCloud brings together best-of-breed applications — including ePrescribing, labs, radiology reports, eConsults and others — in a multi-vendor approach. Also Gomez, Compuware's Web performance division, released a new product, Gomez Active Data Center, which connects Gomez’s outside-in end-user Web performance monitoring with behind-the-firewall infrastructure monitoring systems to provide an integrated view of application performance and IT service delivery across the enterprise and the Internet.

  • named Robert F. Lentz, former Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Cyber, Identity and Information Assurance, to its Federal Advisory Board of Directors. Lentz has over 26 years of experience with the National Security Agency in the areas of financial management and technical program management. Lentz also served as the Chief Information Assurance Officer for the Department of Defense.
  • appointed John Foley as Chief Financial Officer. Foley reports to President and CEO Fran Pierce and is responsible for the management and direction of the company’s finance and accounting organization. Foley spent much of his career at Lockheed Martin Information Systems and Global Services, where he held a variety of positions, including: Finance Transformation Director, Pricing Director, Accounting Manager, Project Manager (OAO Integration) and Proposal Specialist.

  • reported that Supplemental Manufacturing and Ingredients, LLC, a manufacturer of dietary and nutritional supplements based in Tempe, Ariz., and the exclusive manufacturer of products for HealthSport, Inc., has licensed the DEACOM Integrated Accounting and Enterprise Resource Planning Software System to facilitate the company's entrance into the pharmaceutical industry.

  • made a $6.4 million investment in ClearPoint Learning Systems, headquartered in Hoboken, N.J. Edison is the sole institutional investor in this rapidly growing corporate education provider. Edison also purchased stock from the founders.
     

Eurand Pharmaceuticals, Inc.
Yardley, Pa.

  • released ZENPEP (pancrelipase) Delayed-Release Capsules, a pancreatic enzyme product indicated for the treatment of exocrine pancreatic insufficiency due to cystic fibrosis or other conditions, after the U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved it. Eurand has also completed the hiring, training and deployment of its sales organization to promote ZENPEP, including a specialty CF sales force composed of 16 Eurand sales people targeting the 120 accredited cystic fibrosis centers, satellites and other specialists who treat CF.
     

Fastech Integrated Solutions, LLC
Broomall, Pa.

  • purchased the assets of two other organizations. Aserdiv is an IT hardware and software integrator and reseller based in Philadelphia, with operations up and down the East Coast. Transcend is the largest Shoretel VoIP telephony integrator in the U.S. and is based in Minneapolis. The three companiess merged and now operate as one organization.
     

Gwynedd-Mercy College
Gwynedd Valley, Pa.

  • signed a dual enrollment agreement with representatives from Pennsbury School District for the business program. According to the agreement, eligible high school juniors and seniors who complete the “Accounting I” course at Pennsbury High School will earn three college credit hours. The accounting course, which is offered at a reduced tuition cost, will use a syllabus provided by Gwynedd-Mercy College and college textbooks. The courses will be taught by Pennsbury High School teachers who are qualified to be instructors at the college. Similar partnerships have been formed with Upper Dublin High School, Hatboro-Horsham High School, North Penn School District and Neshaminy High School.

  • reported that Today’s Dietitian (November 2009) published an article entitled “Innovations in Diabetes Management — Emerging Tools and Medications Aim to Strengthen and Simplify Care” that included an outstanding review of Healthy Humans’ work.

  • won a 2009 International Davey Award in the Sales Kit/Folder category for marketing collateral created for Innovative Schools. The sales kit won a Silver Award in the annual competition honoring the finest creative work from the best small companies worldwide.
  • was chosen by the Pennsylvania Perinatal Partnership to launch a website and publish a booklet raising public awareness about depression during and after pregnancy. Hollister Creative developed the campaign slogan “Depression Steals the Real You,” and wrote and designed the booklet and the website, http://www.DepressionStealsTheRealYou.org.

  • acquired Utah-based AgencyWorks, a market leader providing agency management systems that maximize profitability for the brokerage industry with over 50 carriers and 350 distributors using the system to process in excess of 1 million insurance applications annually. iPipeline and has increased its customer base to over 160 leading insurance companies and over 1,200 BGAs, banks and broker-dealers, creating an insurance network in the industry for more than 600,000 producers.
  • appointed Steve Meade to Vice President, Illustration Solutions, to oversee Illustration business development and provide leadership for client initiatives. The appointment was made in response to the insurance industry’s growing demand for iPipeline’s Illustration Suite. Prior to iPipeline, Meade was Client Services Director at Accenture.

University City Science Center

  • reported that Lisa Staiano-Coico of Temple University has joined the University City Science Center's Board of Directors. Dr. Staiano-Coico is Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs, and Professor of Surgery at Temple University. A widely published expert in skin cell biology, wound healing and burns, Staiano-Coico has held appointments as professor of nutritional sciences, professor of fiber science and apparel design, professor of microbiology in surgery, professor of public health, and professor of microbiology in dermatology. Prior to coming to Temple, she was dean of the College of Human Ecology at Cornell University. Her research has been funded by the National Institutes of Health, the New York Firefighters Burn Center Foundation and other agencies.
